WIFM: Helping Women Excel in Facilities Management

Women in Facilities Management is the only professional organization focused solely on furthering the advancement of women in commercial facilities management careers.

The idea for WIFM grew out of small lunch gathering of female facilities managers during the 2008 International Facilities Management Association World Workplace. These professional women recognized a void in the industry for them to further their professional knowledge, build stronger professional networks and encourage career advancement for women in facilities management.

The result was the launch of Women in Facilities Management. The need for such an organization has been evident in its steady growth. Through the generous funding and support of our sponsors, membership today exceeds 600 and growing.

In 2018, WIFM became a 501C(3) nonprofit, led by its first Board of Directors.

Why WIFM

The world is changing and women are excelling in careers once dominated by men. But even today, facilities management continues to be one of the most male-dominated career paths. A recent study found that men outnumber women nine to one in facilities management leadership roles. But that is changing; like other industries, facilities management faces a shortage of workforce talent and women are increasingly filling those roles as companies recognize the value of more diverse teams.

WIFM is all about helping women become a greater force in facilities management.

We are focused on supporting women to maximize career growth and opportunities in the facilities management field. Our networking and education events bring professional facilities managers together to expand their knowledge base, learn best practices, share project successes and grow their professional network.

It is no wonder that WIFM has grown for the seed of an idea to a thriving nonprofit organization of 600-plus women strong.
